Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) Page

Welcome to the FAQ page, the place for any questions regarding mailing lists.

  • What is a mailing list?

A "mailing list" IS NOT SPAM. It is a special e-mail address that is set up, so that messages sent to it will automatically be forwarded to a designated list of recipients or subscribers, like a group discussion, forum, or newsletter. Mailing list subscribers can join or unjoin at their own will.

Mailing lists are useful when information needs to get to large groups or individuals.

For example, if you were to send an e-mail to the mailing list's email address, that message would appear as a regular e-mail message in the inbox of each individual subscriber. If someone were to reply to your message, most e-mail software nowadays give the option of replying to an individual or to the entire group of subscribers.

PRIVACY POLICY: Email addresses of subscribers are stored on the server and no one else can ever access these addresses or the mailing list. By joining, your email address will never be sold or given to junk mail spam services.

  • How do I subscribe to a mailing list?

To subscribe to a mailing list usually requires sending a blank message with the word "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject field of the email, and in some cases the mailing list will have a specific email address for subscribing, for example:

    mailing-list-subscribe@notarealmailinglist.com

But every mailing list has their own rules for signing up. Check with that website and see if they have their own FAQ (frequently asked questions) regarding how to join their list, or if there are any special instructions from the webmaster for that particular site.

  • How do I unsubscribe from a mailing list?

Unsubscribing from a mailing list is usually the opposite of subscribing, in which you would send a blank email message with the word "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject field, or the mailing list will have a specific email address for unsubscribing similar to:

    mailing-list-unsubscribe@notarealmailinglist.com

Again, every list is run different and you will have to check with the website or list manager for more detailed and specific instructions.
