compiling magic-smtpd under freebsd 4.7

I'm trying to do this (because we run qmail on freebsd) and I'm receiving 
mass quantities of errors.  Before we open our "reinvent-the-wheel" 
department I'm asking if anyone has successfully done this.  I just talked 
to Josh at LinuxMagic and he didn't know of anyone. 

Feel free to contact me directly, I don't want to bog the list down with an 
esoteric request.
